Memorial Day Weekend

30 May

We are at the end of May.  The weather in Austin has been quite unusual.  We had some very hot days and some very cool days.  In fact, the cool days were also wet.  Susie and I found ourselves breaking out our cooler weather clothes.  I even turned on a space heater for her, very unusual for May in Austin.  The weather warmed up in time for Memorial Day weekend, around 85 during the day.

My parents flew in from Connecticut and stayed with us for a few nights.  This is the first time, since last summer, we had anyone stay with us.  Susie’s blood counts had been on the slow and steady rise, so we figured the visit would be fine.  We had a lovely visit with my mom and dad, but Susie had been fighting left ear problems for the last couple of weeks.  Of course, the problems got worse around the time of the visit.  Nevertheless, we were able to do a bit of entertaining and Susie was able to get some rest during the visit.

After my parents left, Susie’s ear problems got worse.  She’s been in and out of seeing doctors over the last two weeks.  Yesterday after seeing the ENT, who did her Parotidectomy a few years back, she is finally feeling some relief.  It looks like she has both an inner and outer ear infection with a significant amount of fluid build up behind the ear drum.  The going hypothesis is that her left ear has trouble draining/ normal function because of the multiple radiation treatments done on that side of her head.

Nevertheless, Susie is feeling better.  We expect her to be in good spirits for throwing our annual Summer Solstice Party on the 21st, after all June is our birthday month.
