We had family come into town this last week/ weekend to celebrate Susie’s mom turning 90. In addition, Callahan’s General Store was celebrating its 45th Anniversary. So, Susie’s brother combined the two events to organize a family reunion. So not only did we get to visit with our kids, nieces, nephews, out-laws/ in-laws but also cousins and their offsprings. Needless to say the gathering was not a small affair, and hats off to everyone who coordinated, setup and cleaned up.
Our youngest came into town at the beginning of the week, as he had spring break from university in Minnesota. The week was unusually warm for early March in central Texas. Our eldest and his girlfriend arrived on Friday, which was a cool and comfortable day. Unfortunately it was a bit toasty the day of the reunion, hitting 90 F late afternoon. Nevertheless the event was a big success. Our kids and their cousins went out after the rest of us went home. I think they stumbled in around 3 am, unsure if that is with or without the daylight savings time change.
The following day the weather cooled down and we went to two events. The first was a gathering of families from Susie’s UMA (Unconventional Mothers of Austin) group. After 27 years they still congregate with great big smiles and loving embraces. We have seen all of each others kids grow up through the decades, and it was a joy to have our now adult kids in tow. We wish we could have stayed longer, but needed to get our youngest to the airport and then off to the second event, dinner with the broader family.
PS: In the mix of this weekend our eldest took his girlfriend to her first rodeo. Now she can truthfully say, “This is not my first rodeo.”
My brother suggested I might like this blog. He was totally right. This post actually made my day. You can not imagine simply how much time I had spent for this info! Thanks!
